Ananda Yoga for Willpower and Focus

Today I will make up my mind to succeed in whatever I do. Willpower is a tremendous factor in all activities. It can start endless motions of cosmic energy.
O Eternal Energy, awaken in me conscious will, conscious vitality, conscious health, conscious realization.
Teach me, O Spirit, to cooperate with Thy will until all my thoughts shall conform to Thy harmonious plans.
There is hidden strength within me to overcome all obstacles and temptations. I will bring forth that indomitable power and energy.

Paramhansa Yogananda

This class will start with Yogananda’s Energization Exercises to increase the life-force energy within us.

We will then use breathing techniques, called pranayamas, to relax the nervous system, calm racing thoughts, decrease blood pressure and help bring the mind to a sense of focus.

The asanas, or yoga poses, are done with silent affirmations that focus on increasing willpower and focus. The quiet strength of the movement allows us to integrate the words from intellectual understanding into the deep knowing of the heart.

Breath and movement calm the body, allowing the mind to stop its restless wandering and clearly see what is truly important. Once the distractions of daily life, including worries, fears, and anxieties are calmed, it becomes more apparent what the answers are.

The class will end with an optional half hour of meditation. During this time, we will be guided through simple techniques designed to help the mind relax. This process allows us to develop a better relationship with our higher self. The higher self is our best friend, our lifeline to the infinite, the one whose advice we can trust. Develop this relationship to strengthen your willpower and focus, and achieve all that you need to reach your highest potential.
